Here's a translation from German of the brilliant review of Black Feather by www.gaesteliste.de

"We are all a little bit of a cock (remark: the animal), are we not? It seems that Bulgarian-born Shred-Guitar Master Niko Tsonev wants to ask this question with the cover of his debut album. Everybody needs to decide this for themselves, but there are plenty of little tips that should persuade you to buy this little gem; for example, the intro "It Sounds Prettier In French" with its voice samples and solo eruptions, which is as fascinating as it is Zappaesque.
Or the theme song with its unbelievable flageolets/harmonics that seem to float between references of Steve Vai, M. IA Eklundh and Danny Gatton.

There is the country tune "The Dance Of The Rooster", too. The guitar really shrieks like a cock and then the song turns into a stampede version of the Dixie Dregs! Or you have "Blowtorch Slide" which starts with an acoustic slide (Dobro?) followed by a Wah-Wah madness equipped with a full blown, ultra-cool Deep Purple groove by drummer Nikolaj Bjerre.

In the Funk lecture "Oily Finger" the Swiss guitarist Cuthead (see review at Gaesteliste.de) pulls off an electrifying solo. The famously "rolling" "The Great Hawaiian Extravaganza" reminds of Greg Koch;
And then there is another remarkable guest appearance - Mr. Fastfinger in "Samurai Gitarisuto" (www.guitarshredshow.com).

Tsonev has already worked with celebrities such as Mark Owen (Take That), Toby Smith (Jamiroquai) and he is an established composer of Film Soundtracks (see www.myspace.com/nikotsonevfilm ). The album is a "must have" for fans of all of the above mentioned guitarists, as well as for lovers of Jeff Beck, Oz Noy, Scott Henderson and similar artists".

"Everything about this CD is "well thought out", from the cover art which gives a visual impression of the audacious, witty and manic music it contains, to the music itself which knows no boundaries. From the lyrical beauty of title track "Black Feather" to the lo-fi / hi-fi lurches of "The Barbarian", Niko Tsonev harks back to a time when people tried to do something different on guitar, akin to Steve Vai's Flexable era and Adrian Belew's Lone Rhino. On "Dance of the Rooster" his guitar shreeks like a rooster strutting and in the first 2 minutes of "The Great Hawaiian Extravaganza" he moves from country to shred to Hawaiian guitar effortlessly. Don't be put off by any of the above descriptions, this debut album is full of great guitar playing and compositions, "Black Feather" is the sound of someone stretching themselves to the limits of their abilities and pulling it off in fine style."
